Thanks Chaps for another well balanced critique of this flailing series. Just makes me wish Vogel was show running. The core idea should be up there with Andor, ie dealing with the seeds of destruction of a complacent Jedi order. I do fear this show is now un-saveable, at least with Obi Wan Kenobi there are a couple of fan edits that make more sense. Will you guys be doing a live Geek Buddies stream soon? As with everything Star Wars-related, reactions tend to be exaggerated, both positively and negatively. I agree with Michael that while the ideas are intriguing, the execution feels rushed and sloppy, and not everything comes together perfectly. This might be due to budget constraints or a deliberate attempt to cater to shorter attention spans, especially among younger viewers. The brief durations of half an hour or less do not allow live-action narratives to fully develop. This format worked in the early seasons of The Mandalorian, which focused on a minimalist storyline with a character performing tasks, but it doesn't suit series with more complex plots. Additionally, Disney, more than any other media company, is frequently targeted by far-right groups due to its commitment to promoting diverse content to younger audiences. It's also hard to ignore that global reactionary intolerance appears to be at an all-time high. For shows like Acolyte, which are aimed at teenagers, it might be better to release the entire season at once. This approach would allow the show to be appreciated and evaluated as a whole, without the distraction of constant episodic criticism driven by nasty political agendas. Although many pundits oppose this approach due to its lesser monetary benefits, the binge-watching model has proven successful for Netflix. Disney should consider releasing at least the first season of a new series all at once, as Amazon did with Fallout.

Old school original trilogy guy - but no interest in The Acolyte but I DO love you guys breaking it down. John's descriptions of the episodes I'm sure are more entertaining than the episodes themselves.

You what is strange with that last scene John, is that my head keep saying he is Qimir, but my intuition said "No" there a female under that black mask.

This feels like a show that was pitched, greenlit immidiately and afterwords the writer had to slap some stuff together to build a story around it. We are finally seeing the High Republic in live action and it feels like nothing is really being done with it. No interesting insight about Jedi trials, or the daily life of a Padawan or Jedi, how the galaxy view the Jedi, average threats or encounters that the Jedi deal with in this time of peace. NOTHING. So far nothing has happened that makes it so this show has to take place during the High Republic. I feel like this same story could have been told inbetween episode 1-3.

I don't the nk you're gonna ng to see the battle. It's going to be the aftermath and a few flashbacks.

The Geek Buddies reviews have been the best part of the Acolyte. I'm tapping out in this show, but I’ll be back every week to let you guys catch me up. Thanks for taking the bullet. This show is going on the shelf next to secret invasion for me, so much wasted talent and potential. I just don’t care what happens at this point. I’m changing the channel.

Stop hating on The Last Jedi. Rise of Skywalker is far worse, and The Acolyte might be worse than that.

Also in regards to Dave Paloni, I think you forget sometimes that he has made some of the best of the current era in regards to the end of clone wars. Rebels and bad batch not to say more about how he’s developing the bigger story going forward in his upcoming movies.

How I truly wish that Luke was the "Last Jedi", so they would stop making scrips about ineffectual monks with Zero abilities to perceive anything.

Ok I’ve made it to episode 4 just so I could watch the reactions - and, it’s….fine? I don’t think it’s as bad as some of the vitriolic criticism claims, but it’s nothing special either. My main criticism is that it feels aimless - I get that there was some atrocity with the Witches (btw i thought the witches were fine) and that the Jedi might have done something. But I’m not sure how much I care about the characters 🤷‍♀️ Overall - because Andor exists, and was soooo excellent - there is zero excuse that Boba, Obi Wan, Ahsoka and Acolyte should be this…dull and aimless.

As a casual viewer I feel like if you’re sticking in there after the likes of the Obi-Wan show you’re only asking for it. Having said that, all the hubbub and review bombing does have me intrigued.

I agree with you guys the Dave Filoni is responsible, this idea that star wars is for kids and everything needs to be dumb down. So frustrating. I mean have seen Ashoka with that god awful dialogue and there seems to be similar issues here.

Agree with Vogel. This show reminds me very much of the prequels like not the best execution and dialogue, but yet the story feels intriguing and important and hopefully this pays off in the end.

I tried Droids, the other day. You know, the cartoon from the 80s. I watched the first episode, and that was it. Nope. It's, you know, a cartoon, for kids. (I did like it back then... kinda.) This 4th episode of The Acolyte made me realize that the series feels like a cartoon for kids, and not a good one at that. I expected Andor with Jedi. It's kinda Droids. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I liked the first 2 eps. Third one, not so much. This one, today, it was enough for me to realize what it is. I'll go on watching, and see where it goes, but I'm feeling disappointed. I'm not a hater. Definitely not. But I am also not a "execution is a problem but there is something there" guy either. I never got over the prequels to tell the truth. To me, I still don't care. I checked out of Marvel on Moon Knight, when I saw reviews that said it was meh. I haven't seen any of the Marvel series after Hawkeye, because all reviews have been saying kind of the same: not good / meh. I think I'm reaching this point with Star Wars. I think I'll just leave the series aside from now on, and watch only what is mostly praised (like Andor). (Or maybe not, because I do like Star Wars better than Marvel, as nostalgia of some sort.) Still, I'm hoping that The Acolyte will still end up better than Obi-Wan?... We'll see.

The last four episodes are going to have some heavy lifting to redeem this show. Really not feeling it so far. But we need to be sure that we call out the "wokeisbad" trolls.

I don't know if this is intentional, but the name of Mandy Jacinto's character, Qimir, sounds like Chimera. In Greek mythology, a Chimera is an animal made up of parts of multiple animals. Maybe this is a clue to his duplicitous character?

I have been really enjoying Acolyte. Is it perfect? No. Is it entertaining? Very much so.

The Dragon car port was a nice surprise

I'm mostly having a good time with the show, I also don't disagree with your criticisms, I'm at my lowest interest point with the show after episode 4 but it can absolutely win me back with a strong finish.

This episode was very soulless, and I’m hoping the next 4 episodes are more full of fervor and energy. This episode was as boring as the pilot. The show is 2 out of 4 for me now. It is fascinating that the show is causing so much conversation (even more than the boys and HotD) whether it’s negative or positive. I’m sure there’s a lot of hate watching , I’m kinda excited to see how much more batshit things can get before we close out the season.

Not loving nor hating the show so far and have been focusing on the lore. When the last scene started, I was like "Finally", but with the abrupt end it was "C'mon!". I'm hoping they begin to shift focus to the Sith POV going forward.

I just gotta give you guys some love for voicing your criticisms in a refreshingly measured way. The hyperbolic reactions out there are exhausting me too.

I'm enjoying your guys' show more every week. As much as I love Star Wars in general and still looking forward to seeing how this show ends, I understand your criticisms of what isn't working or missing. As much as I can appreciate some of the little moments, yeah, there can still be a lot more fleshed out in these episodes.

1. Why is everyone confused that Mae switches sides or think her turn is not executed well. She knows the Qimir guy is lying when he mentions her sisters master Sol. She is playing him to get away from him and confront her master without a middle man, thus the trap. 2 Why are you confused about civilian robes. She tells master Sol she isn’t wearing them, then in the next scene she is clearly wearing an outfit that is civilian robes, it’s a harmless joke. Dislike the show all you want but at least pay attention to what’s on the screen when you see it. If you want to criticize the show, criticize it for what’s actually there. It wasn’t dark enough isn’t criticizing what you saw, it’s wishing you got what you wanted.

This show would be better if it was 12 eps vice 8. All sorts of stuff that doesn't feel fleshed out or feels "rushed" wouldn't have to be.
